I'm somewhat qualified to answer this. I completed a EE degree just as the computer engineering degree was beginning to be offered at my school. I qualified for either degree with no extra courses as I had taken the EE computer track.

The extra courses I had taken that completed the computer engineering curriculum I had an easy time with. The courses that weren't on that curriculum were E&M, control theory and complex analysis, among a few others. Those courses are really hard.

I selected to keep my degree as a EE. At the time I thought it symbolized a bigger accomplishment and would not impede any job options. Now I know it really didn't matter which degree I was assigned, but how much I took from all those courses.

By knowing both these branches, you might be able to know which one is according to your interest suits you for your career. But according to us the electrical branch is harder. And let us tell you that the internet has improved the accessibility of knowledge, it is much harder to gain a practical understanding of EE because you don’t have the facilities and parts to build circuits to test the theoretical concepts. But it does not mean that computer science engineering is easy. It simply means that the concepts of CSE are much more accessible because it is all software-based for which you just need to download the IDE and libraries to start coding.

But the hardness of both these streams depends on your ability and interest. This simply means that if you are able to solve all the algorithms of the CS branch then it will be easier for you and if you are able to solve the circuits and many more things of the EE branch then it becomes easier for you.
